2. REDOUTE'S FINEST FLOWER IN EMBROIDERY

Early nineteenth century botanical artist, Frenchman Pierre Joseph Redoute, left the world a legacy of hundreds of wonderful flower paintings. In turn these paintings have inspired this collection of delicate embroideries by Trish Burr.

Trish has reproduced seventeen paintings in amazing detail, using only the simplest of stitches to create a remarkably complex effect. Step-by-step instructions are included for each embroidery - fabric, thread, stitches - which allow both the novice and the experienced embroiderer to create their own stunning botanical collection.

Trish's comment: This was my first book which will always have a special place in my heart. I purchased a book on Redoute's flowers at the Natural History Museum on a trip to the UK and this was the start of my love affair with botanical art and needle painting.

3. LONG AND SHORT STITCH EMBROIDERY: A COLLECTION
OF FLOWERS

Trish Burr has selected beautiful flowers and interpreted them in her own unique style to present a stunning collection of embroideries. Meticulous in detail, these flowers are brought to life by the use of carefully selected threads and an intuitive use of simple stitches. With clear step-by-step instructions and full size templates, this book includes everything you ever wanted to know about long and short stitch embroidery.

Trish's comment: This book was produced in an effort to clarify the technique of long and short stitch embroidery, and is now used as the text book for my classes. I spent many years researching the methods and gathering the expertise of seasoned needleworkers. I enjoyed developing this technique in my own way and was privileged to gain permission to reproduce some wonderful botanical art works.

4. CREWEL & SURFACE EMBROIDERY: INSPIRATIONAL
FLORAL DESIGNS.

presents a selection of stylised floral bouquets for embroidery designs inspired by the work of master decorative painters in the United States and Australia, and by the Zhostovo folk art style from Russia. Glorious roses, poppies and daisies are combined with sprays of lavender, tiny blossoms, grasses and colourful leaves, and many are set off by graceful loops and bows of ribbon.

This talented embroiderer's unique sense of colour and shading enable her to interpret a range of floral subjects in a mix of thread painting and wool embroidery that fuses crewel and surface embroidery styles. Her skilful blending of wools, silks and cottons, many of these threads space-dyed will guide the beginner and inspire the experienced stitcher to create this unique style of embroidery. Comprehensive thread listings, numerous step-by-step photographs, clear illustrations and detailed row-by-row instructions make stitching these projects a joy.

Trish's comment: This is my latest book which is a fusion of crewel and surface embroidery. I loved playing around with wool, silk and cotton and seeing the exciting and often surprising results of the combinations. Once again it has been a huge learning curve as I continue to develop my love of shading. I hope you will have fun with this one!
